Advocating with Art
Wheelchair ballroom dancing is a powerful art form that can challenge perceptions about living with disability. Nicole helped launch the Disability Advocacy Initiative for the American DanceWheels Foundation. This initiative brings wheelchair ballroom to universities, schools, and hospitals, and it has been widely received by the medical community. Nicole and her dance partner Rik Daniels have shared this art form across the country. Notable presentations include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center three years in a row (2018 - 2020), and their work has also been recognized by the Journal of the American Medical Association (2018).
